by time news

Dozens of adults, including young people, have been admitted or transferred since last night to Chania General Hospital with symptoms of gastroenteritis.

According to the head of the hospital, Giorgos Bea, these are 43 citizens with viral gastroenteritis and norovirus was found in a sample test. Of these, some were discharged and others remained for further hospitalisation. They are all from different areas of Chania, 27 people are between 18 and 23 years old, and twelve of them are students. The rest of the patients are of different ages, the source or area of the first infection has not been identified and according to Mr. Bea – as he told APE-MBE – he himself, as a hospital, will take measures because the virus is specific quite contagious – hypercontagious, as the head of the hospital described it – but it is a matter that the health authorities will examine and announce the relevant public health issues.

Regarding the students who are among those who found themselves in the hospital, the commander said that he himself visited them, that he spoke to them and as they reported to him, they did not visit the feeding club.

Mr. Beas asked citizens to be careful, stressing that there is no need to panic or worry.
