More than 50,000 Syrian refugees crossed the Turkish border to return to their country since the president Bashar Al Asad was overthrown by Islamist-led rebels a month ago, the Turkish minister of Interior, Ali Yerlikaya.

“In one month, 52,622 voluntarily returned to their country, in complete safety and with dignity,” the minister told reporters in front of the border post in Cilvegozain the Hatay province, southern Türkiye.

The Turkish authorities previously initiated that in the 17 days following the fall of Bashar Al Asad 30,663 Syrians had returned to their country.
Of those who returned, 41,437 returned to Syria with their families and 11,185 did so alone, according to the minister.
Türkiye, which shares a border of more than 900 km with Syriais home to some 2.92 million Syrians who fled the civil war that broke out in the country in 2011.
The Turkish authoritieswho want to quell anti-Syrian sentiment among their population, allow one member of each refugee family to travel to Syria and go back to Türkiye three times maximum up to July 1, 2025to give them time to prepare for relocation to their country of origin.
