Thousands of Catholic believers and other Christian denominations prayed and peacefully protested in front of the Dodgers Stadium, in Los Angeles (United States), after the decision of the professional baseball team to honor an anti-Catholic group of drag queens.

local media like NBC, Fox Newsamong others, and several users on social networks, published images and videos in which a crowd is observed arriving on Friday, June 16, at the gate of the stadium with signs “stop the anti-Catholic hatred” and “You will not mock God.”

The concentration began several hours before the baseball team awarded recognition to “The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence” (The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence) at “LGBTQ Pride Night”. This group is characterized by using clothing that appears to be religious to mock the Church, Jesus Christ and the sacraments.

At the time of the award ceremony, the images show a practically empty stadium inside, in contrast to the thousands of protesters praying outside.

The secular group Catholics for Catholics, one of the main organizers of the protest, indicated in a tweet that approximately 5 thousand people participated and described the concentration as a “enormous success”.

A day earlier, the Archbishop of Los Angeles, Bishop José Gómez, pointed out during a homily that “many of us are offended by the decision to honor a group that insults Jesus and mocks Catholic believers.”

“Religious freedom and respect for the beliefs of others are hallmarks of our nation. When God is insulted, when the beliefs of any of our neighbors are ridiculed, it belittles us all,” he maintained.

He also indicated that Jesus “commands us to forgive those who offend us and to pray for those who persecute us.”

“Jesus taught us to oppose what is wrong and support what is true and beautiful. So today we ask you to give us the strength to do it,” he added.

At the end of the Mass, Gómez prayed with the attendees the Litany of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a prayer that he, together with the other US bishops, asked all Catholics to pray in reparation for the act of “blasphemy” that had been foreseen in Dodger Stadium.
