Thousands protest outside US Capitol against ‘genocide’ in Gaza

Thousands of people protested in front of the US Capitol, in response to the attacks in Gazawhile Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asked the country’s legislators for support in his confrontation with the Palestinian group Hamas.

In the mostly peaceful march, which attracted families, children and the elderly from different localities, burned in effigy of Netanyahu along with American flags.

The attendees, who carried flags and signs pro-palestiniandemanded a halt to the enclave and the arrest of Netanyahu while prosecutors seek an order at the International Criminal Court against him.

At a rally before the march, Palestinian and Jewish organizers denounced the US government and the Israeli minister for “genocide”.

Security at the Capitol was heightened before Netanyahu’s speech began. However, confrontations erupted when police used pepper spray against the protesters.

Inside the Capitol, the Israeli minister stressed that “for the forces of civilization to prevail, the United States and Israel must remain joined“, he commented to applause.

While protesters expressed frustration with Washington’s support for the war, “The hypocrisy of our politicians has reached unprecedented levels,” said one participant.
