Thousands of people rallied in the Ukrainian capital to protest Russia’s threat of war.

Russia and Ukraine have had a border dispute for years. Russia occupied the Crimean peninsula in Ukraine in 2014. Following this, the conflict between the two countries is escalating. Ukraine is backed by the United States and some European countries.
Russia has been concentrating its forces on the Ukrainian border since November last year. Thus, there are fears that Russia may invade Ukraine. Tensions are rising over Russia’s opposition to Ukraine’s inclusion in the US – led NATO.
U.S. officials say Russia has mobilized 70 percent of the military needed to fully invade Ukraine. But Russia has said it has no plans to invade Ukraine.
In this situation tens of thousands of people in Ukraine rallied against the threat of Russia and expressed their solidarity. The rally took place in the Russian capital, Kyiv. It was attended by thousands of people, including students and the general public. Demonstrators carried banners saying war was not the answer and would strongly oppose Russian domination.
