Members of Knesset from the Likud this morning (Tuesday) received a letter of sharp threat, in the shadow of the war in Gaza, on behalf of an organization that calls itself ‘The Israeli Avengers’ in which they were asked to act to overthrow the government, and if they did not do so, they were threatened, they and their families would be harmed.

Those who received the letter were Knesset member Eli Dellal of the Likud, whose letter was placed near the gate of his house, as well as Knesset member Eliyahu Rabivo.

MK Eliyahu Ravivo’s office said: “We express our shock and disgust at the criminal act and the threats against him and other elected officials and public servants. No political dispute justifies threats against an elected official. We put our hands on the relevant security officials who will reach out to the perpetrators and bring them to justice. MK Rabivo will not be deterred.”

On behalf of MK Eli Dellal, following the letter of threats that was placed at the door of his house, he said: “Going to the elections at this time is irresponsible and the abduction of the abductees, what is required at this time is national and political unity of all parts of the people, beyond that I trust the law enforcement system to deal with threats of this kind this”.

During the discussion of the Labor and Welfare Committee, this morning in the Knesset, the chairman of the committee, MK Israel Eichler, referred to the letter of threats, addressing the threatened MK Rabivo, and said: “I take this very seriously. The last thing left for a person in this country is the right to choose and be chosen and no one will threaten him and his work.”

The Knesset officer was informed of the case and filed a complaint with the police. According to the police: “A letter was received in which threats were suspected in the mailbox at the private home of an elected official in the Sharon area. In addition, the letter itself contained various details about many members of the Knesset and their families with explicit and serious threats to harm both the elected officials and their families.

“From the content of the threatening letter, it appears that it was sent against the background of the intention of the sender(s) to exact a price from those responsible for the 7.10 disaster – as they claim, and to lead to the taking of various political actions and changes through these serious and invalid threats.”

The police added that “Following the complaint, the Israel Police opened an investigation into the suspicion of threats against elected officials. The police investigated the suspicion that the same letter was also sent to other members of the Knesset.

“We take very seriously any threat of physical harm to elected officials in general, and the police will act against those involved as soon as possible.”
