JAKARTA – Head of Sub Directorate of State Security (Kamneg) Directorate of General Criminal Investigation Polda Metro Jaya AKBP Joko Dwi Harsono said the suspects Mahfudz Abdulah (52) and Halijah Amin (48) had thrown away three Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) cards in the bathroom. The three cards are a place to collect money for hundreds of Umrah pilgrims.

“The MA (Mahfudz Abdulah) threw three ATM cards in the bathroom trash of the hotel where they lived,” said Joko, Wednesday (29/3/2023).

According to Joko, the two suspects had tried to dispose of evidence in the form of three ATM cards when they were about to be arrested by the Metro Jaya Police’s Umrah Anti-mafia Task Force at the Adillah Syariah Hotel, Yogyakarta. “The ATM is suspected to be related to the bank account for the collection of money owned by hundreds of umrah pilgrims, PT Naila Safaah Wisata Mandiri, which they had defrauded,” he said.

Joko added, Mahfudz initially argued that he had heartburn and wanted to defecate when he was about to be taken to Jakarta. “The reason he went to investigators said he wanted to defecate. There he threw away the ATM card,” he explained.

Nevertheless, Joko stated that he was still studying the list of financial transactions in the three ATM accounts. “However, we are still investigating. Currently, investigators are calculating how much money is in the ATM card,” he explained.

Previously, the police arrested the owner of PT NSWM Umrah travel for allegedly committing fraud against Umrah pilgrims. The suspects arrested were a married couple.

Polda Metro Jaya General Crime Director, Kombes Hengki Haryadi said, the perpetrators Mahfudz Abdulah alias Abi (52) and Halijah Amin alias Bunda (48) were arrested at a hotel in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY). “The perpetrator was arrested on February 27, 2023. Both are husband and wife,” said Hengki.
