The President of the Republic, Nayib Bukele, declared National Mourning following the tragic plane crash in which the Director of the PNC, Commissioner Mauricio Arriaza Chicas, prominent members of the country’s security forces and a journalist lost their lives.
The National Mourning begins on September 9 and will last for 3 days, in demonstration of grief for the death of these people in the line of duty.
The accident occurred around 8:00 pm when an aircraft of the Armed Forces crashed in the canton of San Patricio, Pasaquina, in La Unión, while transporting the main person involved in the COSAVI case. All members of the Security Cabinet on board lost their lives.
The victims are: General Commissioner of the National Civil Police, Mauricio Antonio Arriaza Chicas; Commissioner Romulo Pompilio Romero Torres; Commissioner Douglas Omar Garcia Funes; Corporal Abel Antonio Arevalo; Lieutenant Jonathan Alexander Raymundo Moran; Lieutenant Alexis Alberto Quijano Lopez; Sub-Sergeant Gerson Ricardo Batres Lucero and journalist David Heman Cruz Guevara.
