A funeral wake, open to the public, will take place on Monday and will last 24 hours, at the stadium of Santos FC, the club where the eternal number 10 shone from 1956 to 1974. “The funeral wake of the greatest footballer of all time will take place at the Urbano Caldeira stadium, where he amazed the world”, the club announced. The remains of the triple world champion, who died at Albert Einstein Hospital in São Paulo, will arrive overnight from Sunday to Monday in Santos: “the coffin will be placed in the center of the field”.
The funeral on Tuesday, on the other hand, will take place in the intimacy of the family, after a procession following the coffin in the streets of Santos, a port city 80 km from Sao Paulo which has decreed for its part a mourning of seven days. It will pass, among other things, in front of the house of the mother of Pelé, still alive and aged 100 years.
