Three fires in GN Nice from Friday night to Saturday morning

Three new ones fires took place late last night until dawn, at the General Hospital of Nice “Agios Panteleimon”. It is noted that on August 17, a fire broke out again in a room with bedding on the 2nd floor.

The new fire incidents according to a press release of the 2nd Ministry of Defense of Piraeus and the Aegean are as follows:

Yesterday 18/8/2023 at approximately 23.30 at the General Hospital of Nice “Agios Panteleimon”, in the connecting corridor between TEP and Mandouvalos Building, a fire broke out due to unknown causes in a cluster of cardboard boxes. The hospital’s security staff and technicians tried with portable fire extinguishers, while at the same time the Fire Service was notified, which completed the extinguishing task.

At 01:40 on 19/8/2023, a new source of fire was detected in the area of ​​the A Surgical Clinic in a pile of papers. The fire was dealt with immediately and completely extinguished by the staff using portable fire extinguishers and throwing water from the fire hydrants. In addition, the Immediate Action of the Hellenic Police was called and checks were carried out in all internal and external areas of the hospital by teams of Dia and security personnel. The exit from the hospital was temporarily blocked to facilitate investigations.

At 04.30 on 19/8/2023, a fire broke out outside the hospital near the entrance staircase of the building housing the doctors’ dormitories, in a bin of dirty clothing. The fire was dealt with entirely by the security personnel who had orders for patrols using portable means and throwing water from a fire hydrant, while the Immediate Action of the Greek Police was again called and a patrol car and a force from the Dias team arrived on the spot and carried out checks on all internal spaces of the Hospital as well as in the surrounding area.

Throughout the night, a team of the investigative department of the Piraeus Fire Service conducted an investigation in order to establish the causes of the first incident.

In no case was a patient at risk, no health problem occurred to a patient or hospital employee, and no area of ​​the hospital had to be evacuated. Small-scale damage was caused to the hospital’s hotel equipment, the press release concludes.
