The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation on Wednesday, May 26, recognized three non-profit organizations from Germany as “undesirable” in Russia. The ban affected organizations: Forum Russischsprachiger Europaer eV (“Forum of Russian-speaking Europeans”), Zentrum Liberale Moderne GmbH (“Center for liberal modernity”) and Deutsch-Russischer Austausch eV (“German-exchange”).

The Prosecutor General’s Office considered that the activities of these organizations “pose a threat to the foundations of the constitutional order and security of the Russian Federation,” Interfax quotes a statement from the supervisory agency.

The Law on “Unwanted Organizations” was passed in 2015. The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation may recognize a foreign or international non-governmental organization as “undesirable” if it decides that its activities threaten the foundations of the constitutional order, defense capability or security of Russia. For participation and cooperation with “undesirable organizations” there is liability, including criminal liability, reminds the Internet edition “Meduza”.

The list of “undesirable organizations” is compiled by the RF Ministry of Justice. Now it includes 31 organizations. NGOs from Germany will be included in this blacklist for the first time.
