Another impressive venue, this time in the Aquatics Centre, which hosts water polo. On the metro 14, going in the direction of Saint-Denis-Pleyel, we already met Hungarian fans, and during another long walk from the stop to the venue, we ran into several Hungarian fans.

We prefer not to say anything about accessibility, but we have a suspicion that the most complicated solution was chosen for the planning… But back to the pool instead! In our group, there was a surprising result in the second round, as the Australians defeated the Serbians 8-3.

Before the start, there were more and more red-white-green flags in the stands – right behind us was a Badacsony inscription – and the words “Go, Hungary!” also spoke from several throats, our compatriots were louder than the Spaniards. Half of the quarter passed before the first goal was scored, unfortunately, Munarriz’s shot landed in the Hungarian goal, we also missed the second man advantage, while Sanahuja increased the advantage to two. The third chance was already converted into a goal, Angyal’s goal ended the first quarter, the European champions Spain led 2-1.

At the beginning of the second half, we blocked the Spanish attack, but we lost another advantage and Aguirre’s Hungarian shots were repeatedly blocked. Vince Vigvári managed to equalize in the middle of the quarter. On the next attack, Cabañas took back the advantage. There was encouragement from the stands, but another Hungarian attack ended without results, but at the same time the defense got better and better at the back. Gergő Zalánki’s bomb equalized the Hungarian team at 3-3, but the quarter ended again with a one-goal Spanish lead.

Munarriz scored his second goal, changing the score to 5-3. After a little video, it was confirmed that Angyal’s shot was in the goal, we came up again, the difference was one (5-4). Then he stopped the same Spanish attack and took the ball away. Then, with two goals from Granados – one was a penalty, the other was an action goal – the Spaniards made it three. Zsolt Varga asked for time. We reacted well: with a spectacular bomb from Márton Vámos, we scored again after four minutes (7-5). The result of the captain’s time-outs was visible, because in addition to the excellent defense, there was also a change in the front, after Gergő Fekete’s well-played situation, we carved out the difference more and more.

A little tension broke out from Zsolt Varga by the pool, the Hungarian fans also let out their voices. A quick Spanish reaction came, in the fireworks of the last minute, two big chances were missed, so the score was 8-6 before the last quarter.

For the last eight minutes, the Spaniards brought the ball by swimming and scored their ninth goal from the advantage, so that their advantage increased to three again at the beginning of the fourth quarter. An angel block was needed again so that the difference was not greater. Four minutes had already passed since the last act, before Krisztián Manhercz flashed an action goal and we were within shooting range again.

The Spanish timeout was followed by another goal, and the Hungarian national team was again in a difficult situation (10-7). We had a goal post in front of us, but Vogel Soma defended at the back, and even though we gained the advantage, Vámos’ pass was intercepted by Sanahuja. In the last minute, after a counterattack against the Hungarians, another Spanish timeout came, but no more goals were scored, Spain won 10-7.
