The parents of a 6-day-old baby girl born near Madurai have been arrested for allegedly killing the baby in a suspicious incident. They have confessed to killing the baby by crashing to the ground due to poverty as they are the third woman born to them. What really happened in that shocking incident?
Muthupandi belongs to the big command within the boundaries of the Chetapatti police station in Madurai district. He is married to Kaushalya and has two daughters, a 4-year-old girl and a 2-year-old girl.
Kaushalya became pregnant and gave birth to her third baby girl on the 21st at the Sadapatti Primary Health Center. The child died on the night of December 26 due to poor health and was reportedly buried by his parents near the house.
At this point, the nurse came to the large command village from the Sadapatti Primary Health Center to examine the child and asked the child to be vaccinated. Neighbors said it had died of illness and that his parents had buried it. Nurse Devi told Grama Niladhari Muniandi about this.
Following this, the suspect village administration officer Muniandi lodged a complaint at the Sadapatti police station. The police filed a case and conducted an investigation.
At this point, the husband and wife locked the house and went into hiding.
Is infanticide the cause of infant mortality? Police were investigating whether it was due to or something else. In this case, the police took action to autopsy the child’s body on the orders of the District Superintendent of Police.
A medical team led by Madurai Government Physician Nadarajan dug up the baby’s body and examined it at the place where the baby was buried in the presence of officers led by Peraiyur Tashildar Ravichandran and Police Inspector Gandhi.
In it, it was revealed that the infant had died from a head injury.
Following this, the police searched for the baby’s parents who had killed him. In this case, the police went there and arrested the two after receiving information that they were hiding in a relative’s house near Peraiyur.
Muthupandi and Kaushalya were booked under sections 302, 201,344 of the Indian Penal Code after their interrogation. The court then ordered the two to be remanded in custody pending their appearance in court.
When questioned by the Usilapatti police station, they said, “During the police investigation, Muthupandi and Kaushalya confessed that they had killed the third-born girl by banging her head against a wall because they already had two daughters and could not raise her properly.”
Madurai District Superintendent of Police Baskaran told BBC Tamil, “Parents have confessed to killing the baby by banging its head against a wall and burying it near the house. Strict action will be taken against those who kill female infants in the Madurai district. ,” He said that.
“Female infanticide is a heinous act and it is our duty to protect the female infant. Such female infanticide should never happen again in the Madurai district.
