The governorates of Najaf al-Ashraf, Maysan, and Diyala declared mourning for the victims of the hit-and-run accident in Basra governorate.

A statement from the Najaf Governorate Office, received by the (INA), stated that “The Governor of Najaf, Youssef Makki Kannawi, directed that a mourning vigil be held in the governorate office and schools, to mourn the victims of the run-over accident in Basra.”
For his part, the media office of the Governor of Maysan said in a statement, “The Governor of Maysan declares three days of mourning for the souls of the victims of the tragic traffic accident in Al-Hartha District / Basra Governorate.”
The governor said, “With this painful tragedy, we extend to the families of the victims our sincere condolences and great sympathy, and we ask God Almighty to have mercy and eternity for the victims, and a speedy recovery for the wounded.”
Diyala Governorate media also stated in a statement, “The governor of Diyala, the human rights agency, Karim Ali Agha, declares three days of mourning in order to preserve the lives of the children of Basra and directed Diyala Education to adhere to the instructions and follow up on the mechanism for students’ exit in coordination with the relevant departments.”
Agha said, according to the statement, “We received with great sadness and great sorrow the news of the painful accident in Basra Governorate, which resulted in deaths and injuries among our students as a result of a run-over accident.”
The Governor of Diyala directed the administrative units and the Diyala Education Directorate to take all measures and form a committee to follow up and establish a mechanism for the exit of students in coordination with the Diyala Traffic Directorate to reinforce schools that are witnessing heavy traffic with traffic patrols.”
Agha instructed the municipal directorates throughout the governorate to place speed bumps in front of schools and take the necessary measures to ensure that such an unfortunate incident does not occur again.
