At least three people were killed Thursday (May 5) in an attack in Elad, a city in central Israel, as the country marks the 74th anniversary of the establishment of the Jewish state, coinciding with the end of Muslim celebrations of Eid al-Fitr.

A fourth person, victim of the attack, is in critical condition, according to the Israeli rescue services Magen David Adom. In recent weeks, deadly attacks have been perpetrated in Israel and violent clashes have pitted Palestinians against Israeli police. This is the sixth anti-Israeli attack since March 22. Some were perpetrated by Palestinians, others by Israeli Arabs. They killed 18 people in total.

In the West Bank, 26 Palestinians killed in retaliation

In the wake of the first attacks, Israeli forces carried out a series of operations in the occupied West Bank. A total of at least 26 Palestinians, including attackers, have been killed in violence since March 22.

In this context, clashes between Israeli police and Palestinians left nearly 300 injured on the esplanade of the Mosques, located in the Palestinian part of Jerusalem, occupied since 1967 by Israel.

Elad has about 50,000 inhabitants, including many ultra-Orthodox Jews. The police gave no details on the identity of the attackers and the circumstances of the attack.
