PD Lee Ju-hyung (35), a producer at Coupang Play subsidiary Borderless Film, died in a traffic accident on the night of the 22nd, and colleagues including PD Na Young-seok expressed their condolences.

A Coupang Play official said on the 24th, “PD Lee Joo-hyung passed away in a car accident on the night of the 22nd.”

PD Lee Joo-hyung died at the scene of an accident in which the taxi he was riding in crashed into a parked bus and then a moving compact car at the Sangam-dong intersection in Mapo-gu, Seoul at around 00:25 on the 22nd. The tragedy is compounded by the fact that his wife was expecting their first child in December of this year.

The seven PDs of ‘New Journey to the West’, including PD Na Young-seok and PD Shin Hyo-jung, said through Media Today that they would remember the deceased, saying, “PD Lee Joo-hyung was a sincere junior who had a greater sense of responsibility for his work than anyone else and always did his best until the end.” Netizens also paid tribute through the official SNS of ‘New Journey to the West’, saying, “We pray for the deceased’s soul to rest in peace.”

PD Lee Joo-hyung joined CJ ENM in 2016 and participated in the production of ‘Three Meals a Day – Gochang’, ‘New Journey to the West’ seasons 2 and 3, ‘Great Escape 4’, ‘Korean Monster’, ‘Somehow Adult’, and ‘Comedy Big League’. In July of last year, he moved to Borderless Film, which was acquired by Coupang Play, and participated in the production of the documentary ‘Full Count’, which was released on Disney+.

The deceased’s funeral was held on the 24th at the funeral hall of Guro Sacred Heart Hospital in Seoul where the funeral home had been prepared.
