Three men who transported more than 450 kilos of cocaine on a boat in Escuintla are sentenced to 12 years in prison

The Public Ministry (MP) reported the conviction of three men who in 2021 were surprised when they were transporting 461 kilos of cocaine in a boat that sailed on the Guatemalan Pacific coast.

According to the MP report, with the evidence presented by the Prosecutor for Drug Crimes, the Escuintla Criminal Sentencing Court handed down a conviction of 12 years in prison and a fine of Q50,000 to the three men for the crime of commerce, illicit trafficking and storage.

The convicts were identified as Jose Rodrigo Gonzalez Carvajal, Juan Francisco Lopez Puluc and Robert Antonio Garcia Enriquez.

The MP report details that these three men were captured on March 24, 2021 on the Pacific coast, when they were driving in a boat carrying 461 kilograms of cocaine.

On the day of the capture, the authorities mentioned that the three men were sailing in an artisanal fishing boat named Princesa, when they were located 35 nautical miles from Puerto San José, Escuintla.

The ship was intercepted by vessels of the Guatemalan Army and upon inspection, they detected that the three men were carrying allegedly illegal packages.

The ship was towed to the Pacific Naval Command where the authorities verified that the packages contained cocaine, for which the three men were brought before a judge.

It was also confirmed that the men were carrying 461 kilos of cocaine on the boat.
