Three people died in a traffic accident in Skiptvet

At 14.45 the fire service was notified of a traffic accident in Skiptvet municipality.

What met them there was a head-on accident, where one of the two cars caught fire. The police said early on that it was a serious accident.

– There were two people in one car. A person and a dog in the other. All in the accident unfortunately lost their lives. The next of kin have been notified, the police said just after 8pm on Saturday.

The accident happened on Askimveien, approximately three kilometers north of Skiptvet. One car must have crossed into the oncoming lane.

Relatives have been notified.

The dead are all in their 50s, according to the police. Two of them belong to Sarpsborg, and the third belongs to Rælingen.

The new mayor of Skiptvet, Cecilie Agnalt, is deeply affected by the accident.

– Such an incident affects us all in a small local community. We think of those affected, and have great compassion for the next of kin, says Agnalt.

Operations manager Joakim Ormaasen says major material damage has been reported.

The police are still at the scene of the accident at 20:00. The road is still closed to traffic.

All emergency services responded to the accident. Smaalenenes Avis writes that there were two air ambulances at the scene.

– We have interviewed witnesses who saw the accident. There was some traffic and some cars behind. One of the cars has crossed into the oncoming lane, and this has led to a head-on collision, says Ormaasen to VG.

The road at the site will be closed for some time to come. The area is cordoned off approximately 400 meters away from the accident site.

Skiptvet municipality has not yet taken any measures, but is in dialogue with the police.

According to a resident in the area that VG has spoken to, the accident site is located in an unmanageable bend.

– There is an 80-zone on the site. There can be a bit of telehive there too. Bumps, sort of, says the resident.
