Two small planes collided in midair near Denver on Saturday, killing three people, authorities said. The collision was between a four-seat Cessna 172 and a Sonex Xenos, a two-seater light, aluminum, home-built aircraft. It is not clear what caused the planes to collide.

Neighbors came running after hearing the sound of planes crashing and falling to the ground. The locals say that it was a clear sky at that time. But authorities are yet to find out why the planes collided.

The NTSB said it will release a preliminary report in about 15 days. The collision happened just before 9am on Saturday. The details of the victims have not been released yet.
