The Civil Protection authorities have reiterated calls to the population to avoid taking refuge under trees during the rains, because these unfortunate events often occur.

Jujutla, Ahuachapan. Police authorities reported that during the night of this Friday, September 29, three people died who were struck by lightning, in the rural area of Jujutla, department of Ahuachapán.
The victims were identified as Blanca Estela Serrano, 42 years old; Blanca Isabel Gómez Serrano, 25 years old; and Kevin Alfonso Gómez Serrano, 19 years old (mother and children), authorities said.
The traffic incident occurred in the San Judas neighborhood, El Carmen hamlet, Faya canton, Jujutla District, at approximately 5:00 pm, when the victims were watching a local free category soccer game.
There were four family members who watched the game, but only three took refuge under a tree when the rain hit the area. The identity of the victims was given by Mr. Alexander Marroquín Santos, Mrs. Serrano’s life partner.
