The GGD Amsterdam has put more than 3,000 vaccinations against the monkey pox virus, the service reports in an update. The pace seems to be good, at the beginning of this week the 2,000th vaccination was put in place. Yet it is not yet clear whether the spread of the virus is slowing down; the willingness to test in the risk group decreases.
In the Netherlands, the virus has so far been diagnosed in about 1,087 people. More than half of the infections (569) were found in Amsterdam.
According to the GGD, the willingness to test is declining among people who have been at risk for the virus. As a result, the service cannot draw any conclusions from the new contamination figures.
“The fact that people are being tested less can mean two things: either they don’t want to test anymore, or the group where the outbreak is has had it or has been vaccinated,” a spokesperson said.
