Killer Mike’s joy at the Grammys was short-lived: The Atlanta rapper was awarded three of the coveted gold gramophones at Sunday night’s preshow, but before he could brag about them at the main event, he was taken away by police.

“Are you serious? What the F…” the 48-year-old can be heard shouting as he brought to Handschellen becomes. At around 4 p.m. he was taken to a security room in the Crypto.com Arena, where the Grammys were taking place, to be questioned.

The police then escorted him out of the building at around 6:15 p.m. Two hours later, the LAPD tweeted that Michael Render, the rapper’s real name, was accused of assault. He is about to be released from police custody.

The industry magazine “Hollywood Reporter,” whose editor filmed the arrest, also learned from the police that it had been a “physical altercation.” The gossip portal “TMZ” claims to have learned from police circles that a security guard fell to the ground when he did not clear the way for the rapper quickly enough. The information is not officially confirmed. Those close to the rapper say that the arrest has nothing to do with the Grammys.

Killer Mike was awarded in three categories – Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Album (“Michael) and Best Rap Song (“Scientists & Engineers”, ft. Future, Andre 3000, Eryn Allen Kane). The rapper won a Grammy in 2003, back then for “The Whole World” with OutKast.
