By managing it, you manage your time and achieve success

“The right person” is a special project of “24 hours” about professional success, career growth, personal development, workplace relations, about good practices of employers, about news from the HR sector and management, about the labor market and vacancies .

Time management is a habit that is considered the key to success at work. However, more and more consultants are raising another factor into a cult. “My more than 30 years of experience as a leader and executive coach has helped me realize that the most effective leaders view time management as a secondary task. For them, energy management is the real secret to achieving high productivity and real results“, says Lolly Daskal. He believes that when you learn to manage your energy, you will manage your time more effectively and it will be enough for you.

1. One by one

The first condition is to stop doing several things at the same time and concentrate only on one thing, which you can do with maximum quality. When you are focused on the task at hand and avoid anything that might distract you – including other tasks – you will solve any problem several times faster. And you’ll have energy left over to use for the next one. When you try or are forced to do several things in parallel, you will end up finishing them in quantity, but none of them will be as well done as they would be if you were only doing it. And in most activities, not quantity, but quality leads to success.

To achieve energy efficiency, if you can choose how to organize your work, prioritize, schedule tasks and do them one at a time. If you depend on a boss, try to gently explain to him that it does no one any good to pick up on one thing and interrupt it because something else, supposedly more urgent, has come up. Sometimes it really has to, but it can’t be permanent. If it’s constant, someone (guess who) has a problem managing their ward structure. The so-called multitasking – doing several things at the same time is not in fashion.

2. Vampire hunting

A big energy vampire is too much ambition. Do not get involved in arguments, do not turn them into conflicts even mentally. It’s normal for people to have different opinions. Just because someone doesn’t agree with you doesn’t mean they’re against you. But anyway, if you keep going over the incident in your head, you’re not managing, you’re wasting your energy.

Get rid of inner grudges and all negative baggage, because strong emotions drain your energy. But it is better not to try to ignore them, but to analyze them and make efforts to overcome them.

Very soon after, you will feel a rush of energy and it will seem to you as if someone added minutes to the clock, say psychologists.

3. On “break”

No living person is able to work without rest. “The brain is designed to deal with only short periods of stress. When stress becomes chronic, we begin to have difficulty concentrating,” points out psychologist David Ballard. Therefore, to manage your energy, you must first have it. This means getting enough rest. Otherwise, you enter a vicious circle – the longer you work, the lower your productivity becomes, the more energy and time you waste.

In this sense, a summer vacation of at least two weeks is a crucial moment in your effective personal energy management. Don’t miss it or replace it with a few long weekends, because it’s not the same – it’s been proven. And while you’re on vacation, don’t let work problems bother you. Getting a good rest is a responsibility to yourself.

By the way, a very sure sign that you have suffered the so-called burnout is when you are unable to manage your energy. There are no external distractions, you want to focus on the one thing you are doing but you find yourself unable. Vitally, you need to take a longer vacation. Otherwise, you will begin to feel guilty that you are not doing well, even though you are working hard. You will become more and more mentally stressed, emotionally exhausted and depressed.

If you can’t take a longer vacation, at least find more time for family and friends. If you don’t have the time and energy for meetings, set aside 15 minutes a day for a phone conversation with a loved one. It’s a surefire way to expand your life focus beyond work and feel happy. Which is the first step to restoring your energy level.

Then try to manage your energy so that you don’t burn yourself out again.
