The army did not say who was responsible for the shooting, but said the weapons were used for “personal” reasons, not military ones.
“In one of the units, soldiers used firearms on the basis of personal relationships. As a result of the shooting, three soldiers were killed and four were wounded,” said the regional group of the Ukrainian army “Hortysia”.
The injured had sustained serious injuries and law enforcement officials have arrived at the scene, the statement said.
“The management is taking all necessary measures to prevent such incidents in the future,” added “Horticja”.
Violence between service members is a sensitive issue in both Russia and Ukraine, but mass shootings are rare.
In January 2022, a 21-year-old recruit of the Ukrainian National Guard shot four soldiers and one civilian with a combat rifle at an aeronautics and space factory.
In May 2024, a 57-year-old Russian soldier, who had been drafted into the army from a penal colony, shot dead six service members in the Donetsk region.
