In the noisy meetings of the co-operatives, here, in the “Editors’ Journal”, he was the man who when he spoke the tension subsided, the spirits calmed down and the continuation of counter-complaints was mild and constructive. It was Pericles Korovesis, of course, who – who would believe it – has not been with us for three years – he breathed his last on April 11, 2020.

We all miss Pericles, and not only his colleagues but also many Greeks, precisely because he was one of the many ordinary people, against honors and positions and glories, steadfast until his last day in values that honor and glorify the man concept.

Yes, that’s what he was, above all: Human. A loving revolutionary, lover of women, drinks, friends, social movements, having identified love and revolution in himself. A rebel and rebellious at the same time, who skillfully combined matter and spirit. An eternal teenager, mild and unruly at the same time, a dreamer and a materialist, a charming contradiction, who “swallowed” life and was hunted by the official state and tortured – there he was: in the front line in the fight against the junta, he was after all one of the first to denounce to the Council of Europe the tortures of the junta, sawing its ridiculous, but so inhumane, torture. A “homeless” member of the Left, he may have been in the parliamentary seats for a while with a piece of it, but he left because he didn’t fit into the mold.

Of course, his books remain behind. The “Human Guardians” have taken their place in the world secretariat for writings against tyrannical regimes and stripping them of so-called democratic cloaks, his plays are still performed in the country, his novels and articles continue to awaken and open new paths in the difficult a path of questioning and vigilance, of acquiring political consciousness, of expanding social movements, of conquering the active citizen.

Of course, his aura, his ethos, his dance and his song remain with us [παρότι φάλτσος…]. For us it is still here…
