“The Royal Speech, a true roadmap for water management in Morocco, reflects the Sovereign’s constant commitment to this vital resource, a guarantee of sustainable development for the Kingdom,” he told MAP.
Mr. El Ouidadi stressed the historical importance of this speech, recalling the efforts made under the leadership of His Majesty the King to address the shortage of rainfall and better manage the country’s water resources.
He noted that among the Royal guidelines, there is the importance given to the construction of dams, particularly in regions experiencing significant rainfall, as well as the acceleration of desalination plant projects, citing as an example the Casablanca plant, the largest in Africa.
HM the King’s speech also highlighted the crucial link between these hydraulic projects and the development of renewable energies, he observed, adding that the accountability of all actors, from institutions to citizens, in the rationalization of water use also constitutes a major contribution to preserving water.
“His Majesty the King also recalled the importance of the legal arsenal, in particular the water police, to ensure better governance of water resources,” added Mr. El Ouidadi.
The president of AESVT Fez-Meknes welcomed the Royal vision which advocates national solidarity around the issue of water, particularly through connection projects between hydraulic basins.
“This Royal foresight allows Morocco to withstand the challenges of climate change, while continuing to ensure the supply of drinking water and food security in the country,” he concluded.
