This money will surely increase for the families.
Take your trash bag, close it and throw it in the gray trash can installed in front of your house. Thousands of millions of French people practice this behavior every day, or almost. However, it is nothing, far from it. Because after him, all the procedures for the collection, treatment and burning of waste are put in place. Above all, this gesture will stretch more and more. Live, but surely.
Every year, everyone pays for garbage collection. Either directly, with a separate invoice that the community or owners send to their tenants, or indirectly for many families because this expense is also integrated primarily into the property tax amount. If there are no national costs for this work (they are determined locally), there is a general trend that no one can deny: increases in their incomes are coming, in two different ways.
First, with an increase in property taxes. Every year, the basis for calculating this tax increases, little by little. In 2024, it will be at least 3.9% more. From this amount, the municipalities that manage the collection and processing of waste – all agglomerations/regions of the regions – deduct a portion, indicated in the “domestic waste tax” column of your property tax notice.
If the rate is fixed from one year to the next, an increase in the calculation base will automatically lead to an increase in the payment for household waste. This can be even emphasized if the community decides, in addition, to take back the share it receives. A family that pays €200 for its boxes in 2023 will pay, a minimumfor €207.80 this year.
But that’s not all. Over the years, the payment for waste collection has changed and another type of bill has been in place. It is already effective with more than 6 million French people: pay according to the waste you produce. This is called the Incentive Fee or Incentive Waste Collection Tax.
The process is simple: houses pay an annual fee which includes an unlimited collection of yellow, green and glass containers. On the other hand, for gray waste (all waste that cannot be sorted), there are only a few voids (generally 12 per year). Extras are priced in addition to the package. And this can rise to around €10 each time in some areas.
This program is set to expand because our goal is for 25 million people (by 2025 initially) to be covered by this billing system. So it is good to sort your waste properly because only the gray bag should contain the household waste left after sorting. If you don’t do it right, you’ll fill that can, take it out more often and, of course, pay accordingly.
