Timmins Resident Wins Record-Breaking $7.7 Million Hospital 50/50 Prize

A Northern Ontario man has claimed a life-altering prize in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation’s December 50/50 draw, securing a record-breaking $7,720,930 jackpot. The win generated significant ticket sales throughout the region, including in the Sault Ste. Marie area, and underscores the growing popularity of hospital fundraising initiatives.

Patrick Chilton, a resident of both Timmins and Moose Factory, received the unexpected news while on his way to breakfast. “I can’t believe it,” he stated, expressing his long-standing support for the Foundation and other healthcare organizations. “I’ve always supported the Foundation and other hospitals. I worked in health care for a long time.”

A Career Dedicated to Healthcare

Chilton’s connection to the healthcare system runs deep, having held various positions within the industry. His experience includes roles with the Weeneebayko Area Health Authority in the James Bay region and in Sioux Lookout, Northwestern Ontario, demonstrating a commitment to serving communities across the province. This background, according to sources, likely fueled his consistent participation in the 50/50 draws.

Surpassing Previous Records

This year’s prize represents a significant increase over previous draws. The $7,720,930 award surpasses last year’s winning amount of $6,436,355, claimed by Natalie and Clem Bigras of Hanmer, Ontario. The escalating jackpot amounts are attracting increased attention and participation, benefiting the vital work of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation.

Plans for the Future

With the substantial winnings now secured, Chilton and his wife are looking forward to new possibilities. Before the call, they were already discussing potential travel destinations. “I guess we’re going on a vacation,” Chilton remarked, with Mexico already being considered as a potential getaway.

The Thunder Bay Hospital Foundation 50/50 draw is now coming to Timmins, offering residents another opportunity to support local healthcare while vying for a potentially life-changing prize. The success of this initiative highlights the generosity of Northern Ontario communities and their dedication to ensuring quality healthcare for all.
