Thundercat – New Album Features A$AP Rocky & Tame Impala

LOS ANGELES, April 3 – Thundercat’s highly anticipated fifth album, Distracted, arrives today, marking exactly six years since the release of his critically acclaimed predecessor, It Is What It is. The project, produced by Greg Kurstin, is already captivating listeners with its lead single, “I Did This to Myself,” featuring Lil Yachty.

A stellar Lineup of Collaborators

Distracted isn’t a solo effort; Thundercat has assembled an impressive roster of collaborators. the Brainfeeder album features contributions from A$AP Rocky, WILLOW, Tame Impala’s kevin Parker, Channel Tres, and a poignant posthumous appearance by the late Mac Miller on the previously unreleased track, “She Knows Too Much.”

“I don’t know if I was going for sound as compared to just enjoying the process,” Thundercat explained, reflecting on his creative approach. “It was not being afraid of the unknown for me. Something new and something different.” He continued, acknowledging the enduring nature of heartache, stating, “I don’t think the heartbreak ever stopped. If it ain’t a girl,if it ain’t taxes,it’s World War III. If it ain’t World War III, it’s a new update to the phone.”

Thundercat’s signature wit and fondness for pop culture references shine through in the album’s song titles, including “Anakin learns His Fat,” “Pozole,” and “A.D.D. Through the Roof.”

Did you know? – Thundercat’s real name is Stephen Bruner. He began his career as a session bassist,playing with artists like Erykah badu and Snoop Dogg before launching his solo work.

It Is What It Is marked a breakthrough for Thundercat, becoming his first album to reach the Top 40 of the Billboard 200 chart, debuting at No. 38 in 2020. Since then, he has collaborated with a diverse range of artists, including Silk Sonic, Tame impala, Justice, Kaytranada, Gorillaz, Remi Wolf, and DOMI and JD BECK.

Thundercat is currently touring Europe and the U.K. in March, with plans to announce additional North American tour dates in the near future.
