Chennai: The depression over the South West Bengal Sea and adjoining Sri Lankan coastal areas was located about 320 kilometers south-east of Nagapattinam at around 8 am today, it moved in a southwesterly direction and crossed the coast of Sri Lanka south of Trikonamalai this afternoon and moved in a west-southwest direction to reach the Kumari Sea and the Kumari Sea tomorrow morning. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning that it may cross the coast in the adjacent areas.
Due to this, light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely to occur at many places over coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, Puduwai and Karaikal today and at few places in interior districts of Tamil Nadu. Likewise, the Meteorological Department had predicted heavy rains at one or two places in Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai, Pudukottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai and Karaikal districts.

In this situation, thundershowers are likely to occur in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, Tiruvallur, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Thiruvannamalai districts and Puducherry with a chance of light rain, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem districts. The Chennai Regional Meteorological Center has said that there may be light to moderate rain at a few places.
Namakkal, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Tiruchirappalli, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Pudukottai, Sivagangai, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, Thenkasi, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Kanyakumari and Karaikal districts of Tamil Nadu are likely to receive heavy rain for the next one hour.
