While the sale of single tickets to attend the Paris 2024 Olympic Games has just opened this Thursday, investigators specializing in cybercrime from the Ministry of the Interior are monitoring scams.

Mugs, t-shirts, official stuffed animals… Thousands of derivative products stamped “Paris 2024are already available on well-known second-hand market sites. However, it is more complicated to find tickets to attend the various sporting events of the 2024 Olympics… For the simple reason that this resale is totally illegal. However, 44 sites as well as 26 resale publications on social networks were spotted by the gendarmes of the Gendarmerie Command in cyberspace, the COMCyberGEND, who investigated the subject for several months.

A meticulous work carried out by no less than 200 gendarmes, which enabled the closure of 17 of these 44 sites, the vast majority of which are hosted abroad. The opportunity for the Ministry of the Interior to highlight the operations carried out in the shadows by the police to make this major planetary event a success. “Once a century, there is a guy who is unlucky, who is Minister of the Interior and who has to organize the Olympic Games in Paris“, had quipped the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin in early January, carrying the heavy burden of planning the security of the Olympics.

In order to avoid the emergence of a real parallel network for the resale of tickets or the sale of counterfeit tickets, the organization of Paris 2024 has imagined several parades. The first, very simple, consists in sending official tickets only at the very last moment, while the second plans to authorize the resale of tickets only via a single channel, a sort of official platform, which will allow the resale of tickets only between natural persons and which will not open before 2024.

And no one will be able to pretend not to know, insofar as Paris 2024 has communicated strongly upstream. “We remind you that any resale made outside the dedicated official platform is prohibited.“, can we in particular on the site dedicated to the sale of ticketswhich also states that “any ticket that has been marketed or used in violation of the general conditions of sale may be canceled and its holder may be refused access to the site of the session concerned».

But how to prevent tickets from ending up on the market, when more than ten million tickets will be sold for the Olympic Games, including eight million purchased directly by the general public? “The ticketing security system should in principle prevent the creation of counterfeit tickets“, we explain on the side of Paris 2024, which recalls that the ticket will be”100% digital” and “the QR Code will only be generated at the last moment».

In addition, the tickets will be nominative. At the beginning of 2024, once the third and final phase of sales has passed, buyers will be invited to enter the name of each beneficiary on the ticketing site. Once this allocation period has passed,it will be imperative to go through the official platform which will open in 2024 to be able to transfer your ticket to another“. And of course, no reimbursement will be made by Paris 2024 in the event of fraud.
