Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested an Awami League leader from the Indian border at Nishintpur of Comilla Adarsh Sadar Upazila. BGB said that Awami League leader was trying to flee to India illegally through the border.
After searching, it is known that the leader’s name is Md. Tipu Sultan aka ‘Tiger Tipu’. He is close to former Member of Parliament of Comilla-6 (Adarsh Sadar Upazila, City Corporation and Cantonment Area) A K M Bahauddin alias Bahar.
Bahauddin is the President of Comilla Metropolitan Awami League. Tipu was doing various terrorist activities in the area for Bahar for a long time. Tipu Mahanagar, son of Nasib Ullah of Comilla Nagar’s Thakurpara area, is the co-organizing secretary of Ward No. 8 of Awami League.
60 BGB, Sultanpur Battalion Commander Lt. Col. AM Jaber Bin Jabbar confirmed the information about the arrest of Tipu Sultan today (September 27) at noon.
He said that while trying to escape to India illegally, the patrol team of Barajala BOP under Sultanpur Battalion (60 BGB) arrested the two Awami League leaders along with the Awami League leader from the paved road area of Nishchintpur area of Comilla Adarsh Sadar Upazila on Thursday (September 26) night.
They were detained along with a motorcycle 140 yards inside Bangladesh from the Bangladesh-India border pillar 2078/M. The name of the other person arrested with Tipu. Marjanur Rahman (48). He is the son of deceased Moshiur Rahman of Manra village of Brahmanpara upazila.
In a press release, Lieutenant Colonel AM Jaber bin Jabbar said that Tipu Sultan is a tenderer and contractor who is very close and supportive of Bahauddin Bahar, the former Member of Parliament of Comilla Sadar. The BGB has intelligence that Tipu was involved in various terrorist activities including shootings by directly participating against the anti-discrimination student movement.
Apart from this, Tipu used to create terror in his own area by threatening local residents with weapons including students. Comilla Kotwali Model Police Station has two cases against Tipu in connection with various terrorist activities.
The BGB has handed over the two arrested persons including Tipu to Comilla Kotwali Model Police Station for further legal action.
Mohinul Islam, officer-in-charge of Comilla Kotwali Model Police Station said, ‘Tipu Sultan is accused in two cases. He has been arrested in these cases and sent to Comilla court. Legal action has also been taken against the other detained person.
