Pacific Volleyball Falls to Nevada in Hard-fought Contest, prepares for Eastern Washington Match

A resilient Pacific volleyball team dropped a four-set match (25-27, 25-23, 26-28, 24-26) to Nevada Friday night in Reno, despite holding leads in each set. the Tigers (4-3) now turn their attention to a neutral-site matchup against Eastern Washington on saturday.

Did you know?-Pacific’s loss to Nevada was a tightly contested affair, with each set decided by a narrow margin of two or three points. The Tigers demonstrated strong offensive and serving performances despite the defeat.

The Tigers showcased offensive firepower, led by graduate student Olivia Keller, who delivered a season-best performance with 17 kills and a.310 hitting percentage.”Keller was a force offensively,” one observer noted, “her moast efficient outing as the start of the season.” She nearly achieved a double-double, adding eight digs to her notable stat line.

Sophomore Aly Cox also shone brightly, securing her second career double-double with 11 kills and 18 assists. notably, her 17th assist of the night marked her 100th career assist. cox’s all-around game extended to the service line, where she added two aces, bringing her season total to 12.

Pacific’s service game proved to be a key component of their offense, with the team out-serving Nevada 9-7 and increasing their season ace total to 60. Senior Jayhlin Swain and sophomore Alessia Couchond contributed significantly to this effort, recording three and two aces respectively. Swain has now registered multiple service aces in three consecutive matches, while Couchond has served at least one ace in six of Pacific’s seven matches this season.

Swain and Couchond also excelled in other facets of the game, each tying for the team lead in digs (12) and assists (22), respectively. Freshman Bella Gutierrez also reached a new career high with 12 digs, marking the second time she’s surpassed double-digit digs this season.

Pro tip:-A strong service game can be a game-changer in volleyball. Pacific’s 60 total aces this season demonstrates their commitment to aggressive serving and putting pressure on opponents.

The match also saw the collegiate debut of sophomore Olga Gergacz, who contributed two kills and five digs in two sets of action. Looking ahead, Pacific will face Eastern Washington on Saturday at 10 a.m. on the Mountain West Network. The Tigers hold a 2-0 record in the series history against the Eagles.
