Ministry of Labor tightens inspections to find illegal workers in Oman

Muscat: The Ministry of Labor in Oman has intensified its efforts to crack down on illegal workers in the country. Inspections have been taking place since January 1 in various governorates, including Muscat, with the aim of identifying and apprehending undocumented workers.

A recent operation in Barka, South Bathina Governorate, led to the arrest of 66 illegal workers. These inspections are being carried out in collaboration with the Directorate General of Labor Welfare, as part of a larger effort to control the labor sector and exclude illegal workers from the workforce.

The first phase of the inspection is focused on densely populated areas in the governorates of Muscat, Dhofar, and Bathina, which have a high concentration of expatriates. The goal is to target areas where illegal workers are more likely to be found and take the necessary steps to remove them from the labor market.

The Ministry of Labor’s crackdown on illegal workers is aimed at ensuring that all workers in Oman are legally employed and have the necessary documentation. This effort is part of the government’s broader strategy to regulate the labor sector and protect the rights of both expatriate and Omani workers.

With these stringent inspection measures in place, the Ministry of Labor is sending a clear message that it will not tolerate the presence of illegal workers in the country. By targeting areas where undocumented workers are known to be active, the ministry is working towards a more regulated and transparent labor market in Oman.
