TikTok can change users’ faces without permission

TikTok users have noticed that the app tweaks their appearance without asking for permission. Reported by the MIT Technology Review.

As it turned out, TikTok uses something like a “beauty filter”, but there is no way to disable it in the application settings. Douyin, the Chinese equivalent of TikTok, has a special “beauty mode” where the app automatically embellishes the user according to the developers’ ideas, but it can be turned off. TikTok users believe that this is how the developers are testing this feature in the application, but this time they did not ask users for permission.
