TikTok has given 1 million dollars to BRAC to help the flood victims

With this money, BRAC will provide cash assistance to flood victims as well as repair damaged latrines, safe water sources and essential infrastructure. Apart from this, support will be provided for essential healthcare and nutrition, livelihood restoration, house repairs, purchase of agricultural inputs including agricultural inputs and fodder. About 5.8 million people have been affected by recent floods in Bangladesh.

In addition to this, TikTok has pledged another 6 crore rupees (500,000 US dollars) for young entrepreneurs to develop climate-resilient businesses, where women and people with physical disabilities will get special priority.

Through training under this support, young entrepreneurs will be trained in environmentally sustainable business management and exploiting eco-friendly opportunities. In addition, video content will be created on the TikTok platform to make the youth aware of climate sustainable business operations.

Ferdous Mottakin, Head of Public Policy and Government Relations for TikTok in South Asia, said, ‘We are committed to helping the people of Bangladesh in times of crisis and beyond. Through this joint venture with BRAC, we are able to provide immediate assistance to the flood victims. As well as investing in the future by empowering climate-resilient young entrepreneurs. We are working together to build a sustainable, beautiful future for those most vulnerable.’

BRAC has already allocated Tk 8 crore from its own funds (Tk 3 crore from its own fund and Tk 5 crore from one day’s salary of staff) for emergency assistance including healthcare and rehabilitation of flood affected people. BRAC has delivered emergency relief including food, safe water and essential medicines to around 117,000 affected families (as of September 11). About 5 thousand BRAC workers are working tirelessly in the field to help the victims. BRAC personnel are providing assistance to flood victims in severely affected and remote areas.

BRAC has been on the ground since the beginning of this disaster by coordinating with the Bangladesh government and development partners in the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the affected families. This joint venture with TikTok highlights the importance of international cooperation in disaster response and reiterates the commitment of BRAC and TikTok to help the flood-affected people of Bangladesh.
