DISPATCH — In a press release published on August 7, TikTok announces the official launch of its #GimmeTheMic international singing competition. A great first which aims to highlight their “diverse and talented ecosystem of musical creators and emerging artists”.
“We are launching Gimme The Mic, a global competition to discover new musical talent and support budding music creators,” says the press release. If you with TikTok and over 18, you can participate. For that, just record a video of at least 30 seconds in which you sing, and publish it with the #GimmeTheMic (give me the microphone, in French). This first stage of auditions has already begun and will end on August 16th.
The second stage will be the “semi-finals” and will take place mainly with content creators from the United States, which are the most numerous. From September 1 to 3, the 30 best participants will compete during live performances, and it is the spectators who will vote to decide between them.
On September 10, the ten remaining contestants will face off again in lives, until only the overall winner remains. The latter will be crowned champion of “GimmeTheMic US”, will receive 50,000 diamonds (virtual currency of the application, equivalent to approximately $2,500 according to Numerama), and a ticket for the “LIVE Global Finale” which will take place on September 22 and 23.
“The Global Final will see winners from around the world compete for first place,” the statement read. For this place, 500,000 diamonds should be at stake.
