The US Congress has banned the use of the TikTok app on the handsets of government officials and institutions nationwide citing security threats.

Chinese tech giant ByteDance has admitted to illegally leaking data from social media platform TikTok to spy on journalists. The company disclosed that personal information was taken from TikTok as part of finding out how the company’s information was being leaked by the media.

Tik Tok had earlier clarified to countries including the United States that the personal information of its users is safe and there is no threat to national security in their private territories.
