Nearly 150 original works and sketches are to be discovered in a 5,000 square meter exhibition inspired by the director’s universe, which opened its doors at La Villette in Paris on May 19.

An immersive labyrinth inspired by the world of director Tim Burton has opened its doors in Paris. Installed in La Villette, on May 19, for three months, this exhibition immerses visitors in nearly 5,000 square meters of original works and sketches from the films of the American director.

This installation with an original concept born in Madrid and called “Tim Burton, the Labyrinth” gives each spectator the choice of pushing one of the four doors in front of him to let himself be guided through the Gothic magic so characteristic of the filmmaker. In total, nearly 300 different routes have been imagined.

“When I was young I always liked strange and haunted houses because they remind me so much of the inside of my brain where you get lost you never know what you will find around the next corner”, explains Tim Burton at the microphone of BFMTV.

“I hope you can get out of this maze. I’m in it all the time, 24 hours a day. Everyone has a way out. Unfortunately, I’m trapped there forever. I’ll never be able to out”, adds the director with humor.

70,000 tickets already sold

Along their journey, visitors will be able to discover nearly 150 original works, some of which come from Tim Burton’s personal collection, and immerse themselves in his cult feature films such as Charlie and the chocolate factory, Edward Scissorhands or Sweeney Todd.

“This exhibition reminded me a bit of the creative process of my work as a director. Starting with drawings, then making it something bigger, a sculpture, a film, animation… That’s why that the project interested me”, specifies Tim Burton.

And as nothing has been left to chance, the visit is punctuated by the soundtracks of the American director’s films. Victim of its success, nearly 70,000 tickets for the Parisian exhibition have already been sold, according to the Parisian.
