Tim Burton’s ‘Beetlejuice’ to open Venice Film Festival

A little over a month after the first trailer was released Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024), sequel to the classic from the late eighties, also directed by Tim Burton, the film starring Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara and other stars were announced as the ones that will open the 81st Venice International Film Festival.

It was the official account of The Venice Biennale which shared a frame in which Keaton can be seen as Beetlejuice in all its dark glory, with a description that reads:

“It’s showtime! Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice will be the opening film, out of competition, of the 81st Venice International Film Festival. The film will premiere on Wednesday, August 28, in the Sala Gran del Palazzo del Cinema, “and the long-awaited return of one of the most iconic characters” in the creative history of cinema.”

Through the official statement, The Biennale He pointed out, in the words of Alberto Barberadirector of the contest, who:

“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is the long-awaited return of one of the most iconic characters in Tim Burton’s cinema, but also the joyous confirmation of the extraordinary visionary talent and creative mastery of one of the most fascinating authors of his time. The Venice Biennale is honoured and proud to be able to host the world premiere of a work that is an astonishing movement of creative imagination and a captivating hallucinatory rhythm.”

In addition to the return of Keaton, O’Hara and Ryder, Wednesday star Jenna Ortega joined the cast as Lydia Deetz’s daughter, the legendary Monica Bellucia as Beetlejuice’s wife, the multi-talented Willem Dafoe in the role of Wolf Jackson and star Justin Theroux playing Rory.

Following its premiere at the festival, which will run from August 28 to September 7, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will be released on September 6th worldwide (except Italy, where it arrives in theaters a day earlier) through Warner Bros. Pictures.
