The event, organized by the Madrid Mental Health Federation on March 7, was led by María Amores González, a psychologist in psychosocial rehabilitation, an expert in gender violence and a gender perspective trainer.
Within the framework of the commemoration of International Women’s Day, at the headquarters of the Madrid Mental Health Federation, the conference took place on March 7 in blended format «Feminist Perspective in Mental Health»in charge of Maria Amores Gonzalezpsychologist in psychosocial rehabilitation, expert in gender violence and trainer in gender perspective.
The conference had a total of 206 participants and focused on conceptualizing what gender is and what the essential mandates consist of, on analyzing the mental health of women based on data, and also addressed gender violence.
The psychologist explained how gender intersects with women’s mental health, and raised the reflection that “what makes us women suffer has a lot to do with a need for a change in living conditions, burdens, commands.” “Sometimes, it is not so much a pathology that needs a medication… but a pathology that needs a vital change,” she pointed out Amores.
The president of the Madrid Mental Health Federation, Olga Real Najarrobegan the day by welcoming all the attendees and hoping that “these first approaches to gender equality, through conferences that we share with everyone, are only the beginning of many more approaches and joint work in the future.”
During the session, Amores made special emphasis that gender “is a cultural construction and from feminism it is considered oppression” and has invited to “avoid falling structurally” into gender bias.
