Every evening we publish here on the “Time Out” website Our night viewing recommendation. We don’t aim high in advance: things you can watch at night without burning your brain with an overdose of stupidity – you can do that yourself – even if they are not supertemporal masterpieces. The recommendations are sometimes based on watching individual episodes that show potential, but you are definitely welcome to complain about us to the management if you didn’t like one of the recommendations. In honor of the beginning of the week and for your convenience, we are grouping all the recommendations in one place for the benefit of the dead nights in the week ahead, ranked according to the extent of our flight on them. We are not going to sleep this week either.
>> From Bichoosh: The 25 horrifying cringe moments of Israeli television
>> Israel and Chill: the best Israeli movies on Netflix
1. Sugar // Apple TV+
This week we have a rare vintage of the quality of series that have joined the streaming services, and “Sugar” is truly something special. Here you have Colin Farrell in the role of a film noir detective whose thing is to be nice, and not only is he going to rake in award nominations for this brilliant character, it turns out that he is joining the pool of the best series of the year. In fact, if it was broadcast on a slightly more popular streaming service – You wouldn’t stop hearing about her.
2. Fallout // Amazon Prime
This is already the second time in two years that we get an excellent series based on a computer game, something that until now was considered on the verge of the impossible. And it’s not that a formula was suddenly found, as that they suddenly realized that if they wanted to turn a game into a TV series, to choose a game with a narrative. And the magical narrative of “Fallout” takes place in a post-apocalyptic world based on an alternative history, with a wonderful world where nuclear technology has led to the development of atom-based hi-tech and also to the destruction of the world (which is what we need now), plus a beautiful story about a young woman who comes out after 200 years from the nuclear shelter in which they were hidden Her and Bibi’s ancestors. A series worth especially for fans of the genre.
3. Ripley // Netflix
We already warned last week that something unusual is happening here, and here the film critic Yael again joined in and gave the stamp of quality to this special serial adaptation of “The Talented Mr. Ripley”, much darker and more complex than the likable film in itself starring Matt Damon, Judd Law and Gwyneth Paltrow about 25 years ago, An extraordinary series of a quality that you don’t find much like on Netflix.
4. Mary and George // Starz+
The juicy tale of King James I and his lover, who was pimped out by his mother to make her (and him) the most powerful people in the kingdom, is a true story that has long become part of Britain’s royal mythology. This Starz adaptation, which will hopefully reach Disney+ someday, takes it one bold step forward, and stands out as one of the sexiest and filthiest series of the year. in brief, Give all the 2024 awards to Julianne Moore already and let’s move on.
5. “Parasite: The Grays” // Netflix
Nothing the Koreans do will surprise us anymore, certainly not after the sitcom about the dude who discovers his fiancee has turned into a chicken nugget, but we were still surprised by the high standard of Netflix’s new Korean hit. Both technically and plot-wise, this MDB-horror series is absolutely at a high international level with effects that make even “strange things” school. If you don’t sleep at night, this series will make sure to give you a good excuse.
6. Star Trek: Discovery 5 // Paramount+
Space scientist Michael Burnham’s plots are coming to an end. She started out as the most interesting character in the history of “Star Trek” and ended up as another captain lost in space, and “Discovery” also started out as an attempt to revolutionize the franchise, exiled to the 32nd century so that she would stop interfering with the canon and ended up as a walking tribute to “Star Trek: The Generation the next”. And yet she deserves a proper finaleand yet let’s hope she accepts it.
