British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s meeting with United States President Joe Biden is likely to take place in late September, when Johnson will visit the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in the United States. This was reported by The Times newspaper, citing sources on Monday, September 13.

The publication notes that Johnson’s office has already contacted the Biden administration and asked for a bilateral meeting. According to the source, an agreement on the event has been reached, and the White House will most likely become its venue.

It is noted that the British prime minister wants to “reset” relations between the countries.

“Whether we like it or not, America is still the leader of the free world, and if we want to have influence on issues such as Russia, China and climate change, we cannot do it alone,” the source told the publication.

He added that the American leader at the meeting will urge Johnson to take a tougher stance toward China.

“There is a suspicion in Washington that Johnson does not want to be too harsh on Beijing. But the administration views China as the 21st century’s greatest strategic challenge. Biden will want to push the UK to support them, ”the source said.

Earlier, on August 17, Boris Johnson and Joe Biden held telephone talks to discuss the situation in Afghanistan. The leaders agreed on the need for joint efforts by the international community to prevent a humanitarian crisis in the country. In addition, Johnson outlined plans to increase the volume of humanitarian assistance.

On August 24, Johnson and Biden also talked about Afghanistan and the evacuation of refugees from the country at a virtual G7 summit. The British side was the initiator of the meeting of the leaders of the countries.
