New additions include the annual list of the 28 ideal places in Greece for holidays recently announced by the British Times. The popular newspaper strongly recommends Greece for 2024, over other competitors.
He emphasizes that “Greece’s beautiful seas and beaches, beautiful islands and wild mountainous landscapes, traditional villages, historic cities, excellent food and wine, impressive archaeological sites, intense nightlife, clear skies and the starry nights form a unique destination in the world that deserves to be visited again and again.”
The list
At the top of the established list this year is Andros, which has tens of kilometers of ancient paths. In the next places are Corfu with its landscapes of epic beauty, Kefalonia for non-stop explorations, cosmopolitan Hydra, Evia for moments from other times, Aegina for ideal combinations with the “closed city”, Kos for family holidays, Kythnos for a trip to the past, Lefkada for water sports, Zagorochoria for hiking, Meganisi for escapes from everyday life and Milos of colors.
Next are Naxos for its exotic waters and walking network, atmospheric Patmos, Paxos with its sea caves, picturesque Spetses, Rhodes of antiquity and the Middle Ages, Sifnos for gourmets, Skopelos for relaxation and walks, Skiathos with its beautiful coastline, Poros for tasting by the sea, Symi with its wonderful harbor, Pelion for year-round experiences, Halkidiki for its luxurious resorts, Mani for something different, unspoiled Tilos, Kythira with the waterfalls and Kalymnos for climbing.
The dynamics of the season
Representatives of destinations that have been added or advanced to this year’s list, refer to the characteristics and dynamics of the tourist season:
“The efforts of the professionals and the Municipality to extend the season in Andros have begun to bear fruit. This year there was an impressive increase in the attendance of the three days of the Holy Spirit which exceeded 30% compared to last year, while the whole of June also moved upwards with increased rates by 10%. Our concern is to present the potential of the destination for true holidays in a natural setting that has no equal in the Cyclades. A range of activities, relaxation, exotic unspoilt beaches, mountainous wild nature, good food, hiking in picturesque villages, historical monuments and greenery, but also authentic hospitality are the secret “ingredients” of a paradise, just two hours from Attica” points out the mandated Municipal Tourism Councilor of the Municipality of Andros, Nikos Moustakas.
“Skopelos has developed into a pole of attraction for visitors from many markets in Europe as well as more distant countries. Our strategic targeting of travelers with special interests and off-peak markets has contributed to this. It is no coincidence that this year the destination is “starring” in lists of major foreign media as a choice that, together with exotic beaches and unparalleled natural beauty, offers multiple experiences”, said the mandated Municipal Councilor for Tourism of the Municipality of Skopelos Giorgos Papadavids.
“The gastronomy of Sifnos is not only a ‘trademark’ of the destination but an important chapter for the Cyclades and all of Greece. The local cuisine of our island is inextricably linked to our local culture, land, pottery and traditions. Our call includes the activities, the tour of settlements, monasteries and award-winning historical monuments combined with cultural and culinary events such as the established festival of Cycladic Gastronomy “Nikolaos Tselemendes”, with the aim of attracting travel interest outside the high season. In this spirit, there is an increased traffic in May by approximately 25% compared to last year, making a new record for this month”, added the Deputy Mayor of Tourism of the Municipality of Sifnos, Yiannis Rafeletos.
“Naxos is emerging as a destination of unique natural beauty, quality, gastronomy and alternative activities that “magnetizes” the interest of couples, families, nature lovers and every traveler who wants to experience the Cyclades as they have dreamed of. We see a strong demand in May, June, September and October. Our constant contacts with international media confirm that the identity of the destination is found in authenticity, in contrast to other islands that have been affected by overtourism”, points out the Deputy Mayor for Tourism of the Municipality of Naxos and the Small Cyclades, Vangelis Katsaras.
