The estate of Tina Turner, the late “Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll,” has entered into an agreement with Pophouse Entertainment, a Sweden-based investment firm, for the majority of its music rights and the singer’s name, image, and likeness (NIL). The deal, completed on March 19, 2026, marks a significant move for Pophouse, which already holds stakes in the catalogs of ABBA, Kiss, and Avicii, and signals a continued trend of music rights acquisitions by investment groups. The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Pophouse, co-founded by ABBA’s Björn Ulvaeus, will partner with BMG, the world’s fourth-largest music company, in managing Turner’s legacy. BMG previously acquired shares of Turner’s solo recordings, publishing assets, and name and likeness rights in 2021 for a reported $50 million, and will remain involved in the ongoing stewardship of her operate, according to a press release. This latest transaction solidifies Pophouse as the majority owner of Turner’s music interests.
A Focus on Legacy and Immersive Experiences
Jessica Koravos, CEO of Pophouse, emphasized the company’s interest in Turner’s enduring impact. “She has such an incredible visual presence and such an incredible stage energy,” Koravos told the Associated Press. Pophouse, known for its work in digital avatars and immersive experiences – most notably the ABBA Voyage concert show launched in 2021 – is exploring ways to recreate and portray that energy, though specific projects remain undisclosed. The company plans to announce its plans for Turner’s legacy within the next six months.
The acquisition isn’t simply about owning rights; it’s about “consolidating [Turner’s] legacy,” Koravos stated. While she did not confirm the creation of a Turner avatar, the company’s track record suggests that immersive and technologically advanced presentations of the artist’s work are under consideration. Pophouse previously debuted digital avatars of the band Kiss at their 2023 farewell tour, with plans for a dedicated avatar show in 2027.
Estate Collaboration and BMG’s Continued Role
Pophouse worked closely with the Tina Turner estate throughout the process, ensuring their input, and participation. According to Koravos, the estate was “informed and participating in the conversations,” but was not a direct party to the transaction. This collaborative approach suggests a desire to honor Turner’s artistic vision and maintain the integrity of her brand.
BMG will continue to play a vital role in protecting and developing Turner’s legacy alongside Pophouse and the estate. Alistair Norbury, president of BMG U.K., Continental Europe and APAC, stated that the company’s responsibility is to “ensure her work continues to resonate with audiences around the world, while remaining true to the strength, independence, and originality that defined her career.” BMG retains an undisclosed percentage of Turner’s catalog.
A Growing Trend in Music Rights Acquisitions
The acquisition of Tina Turner’s catalog is part of a broader trend of music rights acquisitions by investment firms. Pophouse has been particularly active in this space, having also acquired the catalogs of Kiss and Cyndi Lauper in 2024. These deals reflect the increasing value placed on music intellectual property as a stable and lucrative investment. The Kiss acquisition, valued at over $300 million, included the band’s catalog, brand name, and intellectual property.
The appeal of these catalogs lies in their potential for long-term revenue generation through streaming, licensing, and other avenues. The enduring popularity of artists like Tina Turner, who sold over 100 million records worldwide and won 12 Grammy Awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award, makes their catalogs particularly attractive to investors. Turner, who passed away in May 2023 at the age of 83, left behind a remarkable body of work including hits like “What’s Love Got to Do with It” and “The Best.”
The move by Pophouse also highlights the growing interest in utilizing new technologies, such as digital avatars and immersive experiences, to connect with fans and extend the reach of iconic artists. The success of the ABBA Voyage show demonstrates the potential of these technologies to revitalize classic catalogs and create new revenue streams.
The next step in Pophouse’s plans for Tina Turner’s legacy will be revealed in the coming months, with the company promising an announcement detailing its vision for the artist’s future. Fans and industry observers alike will be watching closely to see how Pophouse leverages its expertise to honor Turner’s extraordinary career and introduce her music to new generations.
