New Delhi: Tirupati laddu controversy has now reached the Supreme Court. The matter will be heard in the Supreme Court on Monday. The petitions have been filed by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy and former Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) chairman and Rajya Sabha MP from YSR Congress Party YV Subba Reddy. A bench of Justice BR Gavai and Justice KV Vishwanathan will hear these petitions. The political temperature in the country is high over the alleged use of animal fat in making Tirupati laddus. In this matter, the war of words has also intensified between Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy. This controversy had arisen after the allegations made by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu last week. He had claimed that during the previous YSR Congress government led by Jagan Mohan Reddy, animal fat was used in making the famous laddus given as prasad at Sri Venkateswara Temple in Tirupati.

What is in the petition?

In his PIL filed earlier this week, the BJP leader requested the Supreme Court to direct the Andhra Pradesh government to file a detailed report on the ghee used in making laddus, and also sought a detailed forensic report. Citing the report of a laboratory in Gujarat, the state government had claimed that traces of beef tallow, fish oil and lard were found in the ghee used in laddus. The petition states, ‘The quality of various materials coming to the temple should be checked.’
