Police have arrested two North Indian robbers who looted kilos of gold jewelery from a jewelery pawn shop in Tirupur.
`Jewelry cannot be recovered so easily from North Indian robbers. The activities of the personal police and the cooperation of the Nagpur police led to the arrest of the culprits, ”said Tirupur Municipal Commissioner of Police AG Babu IPS.
3 kg gold, 28 kg silver
Jayakumar runs a jewelery pawn shop in front of his house in KPN Colony, Tiruppur district. He has been staying at another place and coming to the shop every day as maintenance work is being done on his house.
In this situation, on the morning of the 3rd, the robbers broke into the back iron door of the house, looted 3 kg of gold, silverware and 15 lakh rupees in cash from the shop and fled.
5 special forces, trapped quartet gang
Jayakumar, who went to open the shop the next morning (the 4th), was shocked to find that the lock had been broken and the jewelery and money had been looted. He also lodged a complaint at the Tirupur North police station. Following this, officers including Commissioner of Police AG Babu inspected the spot. Five special forces were set up to catch the robbers.
Upon learning that four people were involved in the incident, police tracked them down with the help of CCTV and tower locations. At one point, Tirupur Commissioner AG Babu sought the help of Nagpur police when he came to know that the robbers were going to Bihar by train.
Following this, on the 6th, the robbers were arrested by the Railway Security Force police when the train they were traveling in passed near Ballarshah, Chandrapur district. They confiscated 3.25 kg of gold jewelery, 28 kg of silver jewelery and Rs 15 lakh cash from them. The investigation has revealed that they are Makhtab Alam, Mohammad Suban, Badrul and Tilak from Bihar. They were later produced in court and handed over to the Tirupur police.
How were the culprits caught?
Municipal Commissioner of Police AG Babu has been lauded for his efforts in rounding up the entire mob within a day or two of the robbery in Tirupur. The arrest of the culprit in the Jose Alucas jewelery robbery took place during his tenure as Vellore Goods DIG.
Speaking to BBC Tamil, Tirupur Municipal Commissioner of Police AGP Babu IPS said, “We have received information that a robbery took place at a jewelery shop on Uthukkuli Road on Thursday (3rd) morning. I went there with the police team, including the deputy commissioner. The jewelry store had CCTV cameras. But, they were all cut off by the robbers. But, there was only one camera on the table. They do not know it. They have also removed the DVR device that records other CCTV footage.
Torch light, turban
Prior to the robbery, the power supply was cut off. Thus all the footage recorded on the CCTV above the table was dark. At the same time, the robbers used a torch light. Their faces did not look right. Wear a hat and face shield on the head. One of them’s face was partially visible because the mask was slightly off. ”
He later told BBC Tamil: “We have set up five special forces to catch the robbers. One of the team collected footage of where the CCTV camera was. We sent another team to the train station, bus station, and customs. We asked a third group to test in private hotels. The fourth group, we were told to keep cell phone numbers and conduct research. We asked those in the fifth team to come to Tirupur from the outposts and collect a list of those involved in crime. In this, the individuals who collected the CCTV footage collected the footage from 10 locations in 2 hours. It helped us, ”he said.
Trapped CCTV footage
“The camera was placed in a building 50 meters away from the jewelry store so that the road could be seen better. In it, there were scenes of someone holding a bag and walking like the Vellore incident. He was wearing a turban. That scene matched the scene found inside the jewelry store. The 15-minute footage we got at the jewelry store had scenes from 2.50 to 3.05 in the morning. A man walks in at 3.41pm on a CCTV footage showing them going outside. After that three people walk three minutes apart. One of them has a turban on his head. Therefore, it was revealed that a gang of four was involved in the crime, ”said Commissioner AG Babu.
“Was it easy to approach the culprits after this?” “There were a lot of challenges. Examining the CCTV footage it was revealed which way they were heading towards the train station. After confirming it, they checked the CCTV footage of the platform and boarded the train from Thiruvananthapuram to Chennai at 4.34 am. There they put on the platform and removed the turban and mask tied around his head. Then their face became clear. When they tried to climb into one box it was locked so they ran back and climbed into another box. As the culprits were determined to go to Chennai, we informed the Tamil Nadu Railway Police and the Railway Security Force.
Betrayed group ticket
Besides, all of this footage was only available at 2 p.m. However, the train left for Chennai at 11 am. We immediately sent a team to Salem and a team to Chennai. We also collected CCTV footage of the Chennai Central Railway Station. We sent the CCTV footage we had. But it is not known which train they went on.
After a thorough search of the scene at the Chennai railway station, the police received information that they had boarded the Bhagmati train bound for Tripura at 8.20 pm. After that, the police confirmed that they had taken the ticket to Bihar when they checked whether all the four had taken the tickets in bulk. They have since alerted the entire railway line. Railway Security Force police have arrested the culprits at the Ballarshah railway station just before Nagpur as the train had crossed Warangal.
“The assistance of the Nagpur Police Commissioner in this matter cannot be forgotten. We had booked an air ticket for one team in our group to go to Nagpur and another team to Jabalpur to catch the robbers. But, fortunately all four were trapped at the Ballarshah railway station. The culprits will reach Tirupur by tonight (July 7), ”said Commissioner AG Babu.
Who helped in Tirupur?
“Were the people arrested in this case working in Tirupur? என்றோம். “We inquired how many days they had been working in Tirupur. In it, three people arrived just a day before the crime was to take place. Only one of them has been in Tirupur for a long time. We are here to find out who helped him. “
“In general, jewelery cannot be easily recovered from North Indian pirates. The jewelery was not caught during the robbery at a popular jewelery shop in Tirupur. Malta is located on the Bihar-Jharkhand-West Bengal border. That’s where a lot of robbers are. Even if the Tamil Nadu police go there, they do not get a proper answer. This time, with the cooperation of everyone, including the Nagpur police, we were able to recover all the looted items, ”said AGP Babu IPS.
