OceanGate is the company of the submarine that imploded while descending to the wreckage of the Titanic. The five occupants were killed. Cameron was previously shocked by the disaster because of the similarities between the sinking of the ship Titanic in 1912. The director himself dived to the wreck several times. He used some of the images he made in the process for his film adaptation of the disaster.
