A necklace not seen since the sinking of the Titanic has been discovered in the shipwreck.

Based in the English Channel, Guernsey-based company Magellan has performed the first full-size digital scan of the luxury cruise liner that sank on April 15, 1912, after colliding with an iceberg in the North Atlantic Ocean.

700K IMAGES OBTAINED

In the largest underwater scanning project in history, researchers used two submarines, deep-water surveyors, to obtain 700,000 images of the wreck. These images were then turned into an animated scan by experts.

INCREDIBLE NECKLACE FOUND

The images also revealed a priceless necklace made from the tooth of Megalodon, an extinct ancient shark species, and studded with gold.

However, an agreement between the UK and the US prevents the public from removing artifacts from the wreckage and the surrounding area. Therefore, the team from Magellan was not allowed to touch the wreck at the seabed, and the researchers had to leave the necklace in the area.

AI WILL BE USED TO COMMUNICATE WITH FAMILY MEMBERS

To find the owner of the jewel, Magellan announced that the 2,200 passengers on board when the Titanic sank used artificial intelligence to communicate with their family members.

In this context, it was announced that the images of the passengers boarding the ship will be analyzed with technology, including facial recognition and the clothes they wear.

Magellan CEO Richard Parkinson described the necklace as “amazing, beautiful and breathtaking”:

“What is not widely understood is that the Titanic consisted of two parts and had a 5 kilometer-long debris field between its bow and stern. The team mapped this area in such detail that we had a chance to make a new discovery.”

ABOUT TITANIC

The Titanic, which sailed from the British port of Southampton to New York City in the United States, went down in history with a disaster that took place on April 10, 1912.

Considered the largest and most luxurious cruise ship in the world at that time, Titanic had a gigantic structure that could carry around 2,400 passengers and crew. However, during her maiden voyage, she sank as a result of colliding with glaciers in the Atlantic Ocean. Thousands of people died during its sinking.

The sinking of the Titanic was a great shock at that time and caused great sadness throughout the world. This event led to a review of safety measures and maritime standards, resulting in tighter regulation.

Over the years, the sinking of the Titanic and the heroic stories and survivors’ recollections of that event have aroused public interest and curiosity. Many documentaries, movies and books have covered this event, and Titanic has gained a prominent place in popular culture.

On the other hand, Titanic was, in a sense, considered a warning that caused humanity to question the limits of arrogance and self-confidence, and to remember its fragility in the face of nature.
