According to police reports, the kayaker, identified as local resident Mark Jenkins, had set out earlier in the afternoon for a solo kayaking trip. He reportedly capsized due to strong currents and unexpectedly cold water temperatures. Jenkins was not wearing appropriate safety gear, including a life jacket or thermal clothing, contributing to the severity of his condition.
